Love em or hate em, Villa’s have a charm like no other. Renovating your villa can completely transform the way you feel in your home- and that’s life changing!

From re-imagining your living space, redesigning your bathroom, to adding much needed storage; imagine built in floor to ceiling cupboards! To adding a butlers pantry or another bedroom… The possibilities are endless.

One things for sure though, there is nothing more satisfying than turning an old cold villa; into a warm new home that delights in natural light, oozes storage space, and becomes an entertainers dream with indoor/outdoor flow.

With that, here’s our SIx Tips to Renovate your Country Villa and turn it into your dream home:

  1. Start at the letterbox: You want people to know that there is something special here. And a gorgeous fence and inviting entrance to your country villa, totally transforms the street appeal. Don’t forget a motorised gate. And if you’re short on space, make it a sliding gate instead of a swing gate.

  2. Storage: If you live in an old home, you and I both know that adding built-in storage is at the top of your list.

-Think custom built bench seats in your dining room with under seat storage.

-Storage under the stairs if you have a two storey home &

-Double if not triple wardrobes in every bedroom. The options for wardrobes are endless, from freestanding simple wire storage solution, to walk in wardrobes with drawer and tower storage, or hidden wardrobes with sliding doors (and optional mirror fronts).

  3. Create Indoor /Outdoor Flow: Most old country Villas lack indoor/ outdoor flow. Adding a bi-folding stacker from the main living area and knocking out some walls between the kitchen/lounge and dining area are often at the top of our clients to do list for their villa. Note: we have an in-house architect who can help you with conceptualising your idea and putting it through council.

  4. Add More Natural Light Sources: Whether it be through the addition of skylights, adding an extra window in that pesky dark spot in the house, making a few existing windows bigger, or adding french or bifold stacker doors. Creating more Natural light in your country villa will brighten your day- literally.

5. Create a Realistic Budget (then add a least a 10% contingency budget): It’s important to know your budget before you start and have a contingency budget for unforeseen’s. Especially with this style of home, more often than not you’ll run into unforeseen issues during the renovation process. Having at least a 10% contingency budget up your sleeve, is not just recommended- it’s essential.

6. Get Design Advice: You might think that getting an interior designer is only for the rich and famous, but it’s not! Having an interior designer can help save you time, and money; by avoiding costly mistakes. And they can actually make you money; by increasing the appeal and value of your home.

Our in-house interior designer will help you to create the right colour scheme, choose the right flooring, and ensure a cohesive style throughout your home. We include complimentary interior design with all major renovations (*minimum spend applies).
